A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Dekalb County on September 26, 2024. The request was made by us at DeKalb Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for a list of all payments made to vendors from January 1, 2024, through September 26, 2024. The requested information includes the vendor name, transaction date, transaction description, and the amount of each payment.
As members of the media committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, we believe access to such public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Therefore, we have requested these records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140), preferably in an electronic format.
In light of our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional. We are awaiting a response from Dekalb County regarding this FOIA request.
