STEM - 2023-2024 Relocation Meeting
Nov. 16, 2022
Starts at 7:00 PM
Description
Beginning in September 2023, the Chester Upland School of the Arts building will undergo extensive renovations, closing the school for approximately 18 months.
During this time, CUSA students and staff will be temporarily moved to STEM Showalter.
STEM Showalter students and staff will temporarily move to Chester High School.
Why is the CUSA building being renovated?
We believe our children deserve state-of-the-art and modern learning facilities similar to school districts in the surrounding area. We are excited to share that the district has received a little more than $2 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funding to address much-needed repairs to the CUSA building. However, the funding MUST be used by a specific date. Extensive renovations need to be completed, and the school building will be closed for the entire duration of the project. The STEM building is the most accommodating space for CUSA staff and student body.
Why is STEM moving to CHS?
While elementary school students from CUSA are being housed at STEM during the renovation phase, the most accommodating space for STEM staff and student body is CHS. Currently, CHS has approximately 900 students. The building can accommodate 3000+ students.
I understand this news may raise concern.
I will hold two meetings next Wednesday, November 16, to discuss this plan more in-depth with CUSA and STEM families. Please view the meeting details below. I look forward to seeing you in person and answering any questions you may have.
