Notre Dame Presents CHICAGO: The High School Edition Nov. 12-13

Chicago1

Academy-Notre Dame De Namur issued the following announcement on Nov. 1.

C'mon to ND and "paint the town ... and all that jazz!" Don't miss Notre Dame's production of Chicago, The High School Edition on Friday and Saturday, November 12-13 at 7 pm on the Cuvilly stage.

It's been two long years since the last ND Upper School Musical, and you won't be disappointed by this high-energy production, featuring some outstanding vocal and dance performances.

In roaring 20s Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap ... until he finds out he's been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another "Merry Murderess," Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the "American Dream": fame, fortune, and acquittal.

Pam Devenney, Co-Director of Chicago at ND, shares, "From the moment you hear the first note of the Chicago Overture, you will have a smile on your face. The satire throughout the humorous songs and dances will energize each and every audience member. It feels so good to be back doing live theatre and this musical will have you tapping your toes and doing jazz hands for the entire show!"

Leading the ND cast are: Julia Youakim '23 as Roxie, Amelia Mordan '22 as Velma, Julia Pyfer '23 as Matron Mama Morton, and Catherine Chapman '22 as Mary Sunshine.

Book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse; Music by John Kander; Lyrics by Fred Ebb. Based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins / Script adaptation by David Thompson.
