Borough of Marcus Hook  issued the following announcement on Oct. 25.

Military units, string bands, drum teams, antique cars, civic groups, fire companies, and others will grace the streets of Marcus Hook Borough on Saturday, November 13, 2021 as the Borough celebrates Veterans Day in grand style.  For the second year in a row, the Borough of Marcus Hook postponed the annual Memorial Day Parade, this year instead of a public health emergency the Borough made the decision to postpone due to inclement weather.  This year’s parade will begin at 12:00 Noon starting on 10th Street at the Marcus Hook Trainer line. At Market Street the parade will head south and conclude at Market Square Memorial Park, the Borough’s beautiful waterfront park.

The parade will feature a number of marching bands, musical groups, and organizations including the Chester County Antique Car Club, South Philly String Band, Quaker City String Band, Ferko String Band, Avalon String Band, West Powelton Steppers – official 76ers drum team, Trinidad North Steel Drum Duo, Media Dixies, the Valley Forge Highlanders, and of course Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty, along with many other civic and community groups!

Ed Dougherty and Ed Keegan will both be serving as Grand Marshal in this year’s parade. Ed Dougherty delivered mail in Marcus Hook back in the 1960’s and as it turns out delivered his own draft notice to himself for the Vietnam War. Ed served in the United States Army, reaching the rank of Sergeant, and was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam. Ed went on to become a successful professional golfer on the PGA and Senior PGA tours.

Ed Keegan was born in the Borough of Marcus Hook and resided on McClenachan Terrace during the early years of his life. Ed served in the US Army from August, 1966 – August, 1968 as a Military Police Officer, reaching the rank of Sergeant and was stationed at Fort Benning, GA. Ed now resides in Upper Chichester, PA.
