Chanticleer Garden issued the following announcement on Oct 25.
Over two days our staff transformed this area around the base of the honeylocust into a new gravel bed. The bed was installed to provide a layer of safety around the delicate roots of the tree.
First we created an edge around the new bed and removed turf where it was not dense with tree roots. We then used an air spade to carefully expose the roots of the tree, working hard to not damage any in the process. Once the roots were exposed and the soil was loosened by the air spade we began mixing gravel into the bed to provide drainage for the intended plants that will join the bed in the off season.
We can't wait until next spring to watch this bed come to life.
