In the opening quarter of 2026, Fair Acres Geriatric Center was recognized as the largest nursing home in Delaware County, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.
The facility reported 778 available beds, surpassing the Delaware County average by 635 beds as of the first quarter of 2026. An average of 439.8 residents were cared for at the center during this time.
The CMS assigned Fair Acres Geriatric Center an overall rating of 5 out of 5, exceeding the statewide Pennsylvania average of 3 for nursing homes.
Pine View Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center was the second largest nursing home in Delaware County during the quarter, offering 298 beds. St. Francis Center for Rehabilitation & Healthcare ranked third, with 273 beds available.
Fair Acres Geriatric Center reported no fines or penalties for the first quarter of 2026.
The county had one public nursing home operating in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, at that time.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the nation’s older adult population continues to increase, while younger age groups decrease. From 2020 to 2024, Americans age 65 and older rose by 13%, as the number of people under 18 decreased by 1.7%. The country’s older adult population has surged over the past century, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.
A 2021 study found that nearly half of Americans in this age group—about 28 million people—may need long-term services and support. The report also projects more than one-third could eventually receive care in a nursing home.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
