Philadelphia Union midfielder Danley Jean Jacques has been named to Haiti’s roster for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, according to a May 15 announcement. This marks the first time since 1974 that Haiti will participate in the tournament and represents a milestone for both player and club.
Jean Jacques’ selection means Philadelphia Union has active players on qualified national team rosters in consecutive FIFA World Cups, following Olivier Mbaizo’s participation with Cameroon at the 2022 tournament. The achievement highlights the growing presence of Union players on the world stage.
Haiti is set to compete in Group C, opening against Scotland on June 13 in Boston. The team will then face Brazil on June 19 in Philadelphia and conclude group play against Morocco on June 24 in Atlanta. Prior to these matches, Haiti will play preparation games against New Zealand and Peru.
Jean Jacques could become the first active player from Philadelphia Union to appear in a World Cup match. He has earned 28 senior national team caps and scored eight goals for Haiti since making his international debut on March 25, 2023. During qualification for this year’s tournament, he scored against Nicaragua and assisted versus Costa Rica.
The midfielder joined Philadelphia Union during summer of 2024 and debuted against Columbus Crew. In Major League Soccer competition, he has made 51 appearances with five goals and three assists. Philadelphia Union features a roster of professional players competing at Subaru Park, their dedicated stadium located along Chester’s waterfront; they also operate training facilities supporting both elite performance and community engagement according to the official website.
Looking ahead, Jean Jacques’ involvement at this level may further raise Philadelphia Union’s profile within Major League Soccer as well as internationally.
